*** First Ever ***

You are warmly invited to create a Christmas display on your house, in a window or garden, or on a wall, fence or hedge, and enter our competition.

First prize is a hamper worth more than £50 from Rushlake Green Village Stores. There are also £10 cash runner up prizes for the most creative / amusing display and the most meaningful display.

Your display should be visible from the road.

By all means make your display a celebration of Santa and snowmen, but as a biased Rector, I’ll be giving extra marks for any displays which reference you know, Christmas, Jesus etc. If you need a refresher, you can read the Bible’s Christmas stories in Matthew’s Gospel chapters 1 and 2 and Luke’s Gospel chapters 1 and 2. Shepherds and wise men and mangers would all be very much the thing. (You can easily find a good modern version of the Bible like The New International Version at websites such as: and look up the relevant

To enter, please email your name, address and postcode with a photo of your display to by 10am on Friday 17th December. If possible, please leave your display in place until after Christmas day. By entering you agree that your address (but not your name and email) and photos of your display may be shared online. We hope people will come and look at them. They may even form a trail!

Entries from outside the benefice can only be accepted at the Rector’s discretion. In practice, any local entries are probably welcome. If I have to go to Scotland or Australia to look at your house, that is going to be more of a challenge.

Entries are also welcome from businesses, groups, organisations (village halls, pubs, schools, the WI etc.)

The Rector’s decision is final – and wouldn’t life be easier and happier if that principle were applied in more areas of life?!

I hope you find this competition and seeing the results great fun. And that you have a happy and peaceful Christmas.

(My apologies that some of the posters and flyers (and perhaps some other places) say Thursday 17th December. Very stupid of me. I meant Friday 17th December.)

We encourage you to include this link  ” the QR code and Social media hash tag: #WBSGDXmas ” in your display so that others can enter the competition or go and see the entries. You can do this by printing this PDF.

We would of course love to see you and your family and friends at any of our special Christmas services and events details of which can be found here: All are welcome.
